There are many compelling reasons to use Scandinavian pine. As it is
grown slowly in a colder climate, the wood becomes much denser than
pine from lower-lying lands. The pine used by Finnish Wood Products
comes from the northern regions of Finland, where the climate is ideal
for producing strong, robust wood. The circles in the grain of Finnish
pine are tighter, which makes the wood harder, and also allows for a
smooth, attractive finish. All of the wood used by Finnish Wood
Products is taken from renewable sources. Trees are replanted at the
same rate they are harvested, ensuring that the environment is
maintained and no ecological damage is done.
Finnish Wood Products acts as the UK agents for Lappiporras Oy, one of
Finland’s most prominent staircase manufacturers. They handle
every aspect of supply from specification to installation (if required)
plus after sales support. The relationship began in March 2005, with
representatives from Finnish Wood Products visiting the Lappiporras
factory to see for themselves the advanced design and manufacturing
process. The components are computer-designed for perfect accuracy,
before being meticulously hand-checked to ensure the high standards of
quality are met. Scandinavian manufacturing is renowned for excellent
workmanship and high quality, and Lappiporras is no exception. After
being checked, the components are clear lacquered or colour stained
according to specification, a finish that is baked on to provide an
extremely hard-wearing surface. The finished product is then shipped
out to customers, and is designed for simple self-assembly, though a
full installation service from a network of installers is available if
required. The non-labour intensive building process allows for
extremely competitive pricing.
It isn’t just the fantastic build quality that sets
Lappiporras stairs apart from their competitors – the design
is just as impressive, and as can be designed to fit any sort of
opening they can be as unique as the house itself. The beautiful curved
strings and banisters combine to create more than just a functional set
of stairs – more like a piece of furniture for the home that
can be appreciated on many levels. Finnish Wood Products have brought
Lappiporras stairs to the UK for the first time. The range was unveiled
at the Home Building and Renovating Show that took place at the
Birmingham NEC in April of this year, with the stand attracting
tremendous interest from all areas.
The design of Lappiporras stairs is completely flexible. Customers can
specify closed or open steps, with a natural finish or carpeted treads,
in a spiral or straight configuration. It is possible to ‘mix
and match’ stair components to create a totally individual
staircase. The quality of the design combined with the fine
craftsmanship means that Lappiporras stairs are appropriate for all
types of new builds as well as renovation projects.
Another exciting new product being introduced is a contemporary style
of the traditional Finnish Grillhouse. This is a summerhouse-style
timber building that also contains a fully fitted barbeque with
chimney, allowing for barbeque dining all year round, even at
Christmas. As such, it is ideal for the changeable British climate.
These octagonal buildings can be supplied in various sizes from 12
square metres upwards. The Grillhouses are constructed from the same
high quality pine as Lappiporras stairs, and so share all the same
advantages of this type of material. The interior is equipped with an
octagonal grill with adjustable cooking trivets, and a wood table
surround. The hood above the grill ensures that all smoke from cooking
is drawn away from the eating area and out of the chimney. Around the
inside of the outer walls are fitted benches that allow you to enjoy
the warmth of the grill whilst chatting with your friends and family.
The glass in the Grillhouse windows and doors is all high-specification
double glazing. As with Lappiporras stairs, the highest precision
manufacturing techniques are employed for the Grillhouse to ensure the
components are machined to perfection to ensure that all joints
interlock perfectly. The Grillhouse is delivered complete to your door,
and is extremely easy to assemble – only a few fixings are
required. Finnish Wood Products have also developed a close working
relationship with Compuwood Oy of Finland for the manufacture of Timber
Frame homes. These timber frames are again manufactured from the
Finnish Redwood and custom built to your design. Being of Scandinavian
design the frames are highly efficient in thermal qualities therefore
deducing the cost of heating. The package offered by Finnish Wood
Products can be a complete package to include design of foundations,
building control and Architects Certificate, all supplied from the team
in UK. And will include windows, doors and staircases. The frame can
just be supplied if required.
